Pink hair is here to stay! Demi Lovato became the latest star to try the trend, debuting freshly dyed bright-pink tips at the X Factor San Francisco auditions over the weekend.

The pop star is one of several famous fashionistas to try the dip-dye trend; recently, Lauren Conrad and Nicole Richie worked the partially-pink hairstyle, too.

Lovato isn’t the only fan of the funky hue, however — her fellow judge (and tough critic!) Simon Cowell also likes the new ‘do.

“Yay!! Simon approves of my pink hair!! #SFactor,” the singer Tweeted along with a snapshot of her, Cowell and Britney Spears backstage at the auditions.

Between Lovato’s ever-changing technicolor tresses (she just went blonde a few weeks ago) and Spears’s upgraded fashion-game, the ladies of X Factor know how to keep us interested in the style department. Now that’s how you turn heads! Demi Lovato sported a debatable hairstyle at X Factor‘s Greensboro, North Carolina auditions over the weekend.

The young star’s retro-inspired half-up, half-down look deserved a double-take, but not necessarily for the right reasons. While we loved Lovato’s pink-dipped tips, this new look is perhaps just a bit too statement-making.

The judge also went dramatic with her makeup — including winged eyeliner — which was jarring teamed with such a high-impact ‘do.

Though we’re not crazy about her styling, we love the rocker-chic outfit. The neon lace dress teamed with a tough leather jacket (similar to her first audition look) is edgy and fun — just the way we like to see the 19-year-old. Tell us: Do you like Lovato’s hairstyle?

We’re all for sweet rolls … but when they’re in our tummies, not our hair! Lately, several stars have been sporting retro, pinup-inspired hairstyles, and while different, we can’t decide if we’re quite on board.

Katy Perry kicked off the trend at Berlin’s ECHO Awards in March, curling her then-blue bangs up over the top of her head. Demi Lovato followed suit last weekend, giving her long, pink-tinged blonde hair a bit of a front bun at X Factor auditions in North Carolina. And Thursday, P!nk did the same, punching up her black jumpsuit with a colorful rolled hairstyle and dangly earrings.

We’re all for trying something new — fashion is supposed to be fun! — but are these retro hairstyles an old trend we’re ready to retry — or should they stay in the style vault? And why are we suddenly so hungry? Tell us: Would you try a hair roll?

The paparazzi aren’t just a nuisance for Demi Lovato, they’re also costing her money — literally!

The X Factor star dishes to Self magazine about what happens when she’s followed by photogs while shopping. “When there’s a camera taking pictures of me I get so distracted,” the August cover girl tells the magazine. “I end up buying things that are really too expensive.”

Something that she planned to splurge on that turned out to be a waste? Gucci boots on her 16th birthday. “I was at the mall and was like, ‘You know what, I worked really hard this year. I haven’t really ever bought an expensive pair of shoes before. I’m going to go for it,’” the star recalls. But, she added, “I purchased them and I never wore them once.”

The young starlet, who has struggled with body issues in the past, also reveals how her confidence has changed throughout the years. “I used to feel my most beautiful when I was on the red carpet or at events or something where I’m all dolled up,” she admits. “Now it’s when I’m able to hang out with a guy without my makeup on or lay on the beach with no makeup on and not even worrying about what my hair … When I’m confident enough to show myself without makeup on, that’s when I feel my most confident.”

Demi Lovato pulled triple duty at the Teen Choice Awards Sunday night — picking up two awards and hosting the show — so naturally, she needed three outfits to do the jobs!

The singer arrived on the red carpet in Universal City, Calif., working a beaded and feathered creation (left, reminiscent of her first X Factor frock), plus sky-high heels and a super-tall ponytail. Halfway through the show, she changed into a peekaboo black-and-white creation with a bright yellow waistline and chunky necklace (center).

By the end of the show, Lovato slipped into a third outfit, a little black dress with exposed midriff, covered with a studded leather jacket (right). But what really stood out was her hair: gone were her pink ends, and in their place, blue! (Now that’s a quick change.) It turns out the starlet went to Nine Zero One salon earlier in the weekend, getting ombré color that fades from green to blue.

If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it: that’s Demi Lovato‘s new approach to hair color.

Appearing on Live! with Kelly and Michael on Wednesday, the X Factor judge flaunted a true-blonde hue, sans the bright pink and blue tips we saw earlier this summer.

“I think this is my favorite right now, just because it’s the color I have,” Lovato joked to host Kelly Ripa when asked about her recent rainbow of hair colors. “I don’t feel like changing it.”

We don’t blame her; in just one year, she’s had those colorful tips, auburn locks for her “Give Your Heart A Break” video, an all-over red and, of course, her natural brunette color, which made a few appearances in between.

Since the singer switches up her hairstyle as often as some people change their nail polish, we wonder what she plans on trying during her stint on X Factor, which premieres next week. Tell us: What do you think of Lovato as a true blonde?

She’s done it again! Demi Lovato changed up her hairstyle on Tuesday, sharing a photo of her brand new blonde bangs with her Twitter followers.

“Guess what’s back, back, back, back again….. BANGS are back, back, back tell your friends….,” she wrote to the tune of Eminem’s “Without Me.”

During a chat with PEOPLE Wednesday, Lovato said the simple new style was done for fun. “I used to have them a while ago,” she shared. “I figured, why not try them again.” So will they become a permanent fixture? “We’ll see,” she said.

The X Factor judge said that all of her recent hair changes — red, blonde, dip-dyed — have been a simple means of self-expression.

“I think it’s fun to just experiment with my hair,” she said. “It’s kind of the only way I really act out anymore — I’m unpredictable and impulsive with my hair color. And if that’s the worst it is for me, then I’m totally OK with that.” Tell us: Do you prefer Lovato with or without bangs?

She’s gone blonde, brunette, even bald, but this is something we’ve never seen on Britney Spears before.

The pop star debuted teal, blue and hot pink tips over the weekend at the iHeartRadio Music Festival in Las Vegas. And Spears must have been happy with how her My Little Pony-inspired mane came out because she decided to stick with the look, wearing it out in Calabasas, Calif., on Monday.

We’re used to seeing this kind of bold ‘do from her X Factor co-judge Demi Lovato, but Spears has been playing it relatively safe with her strands since joining the show, sticking with her signature blonde color.

So, we’re a little surprised to see the singer sport such a funky hairstyle. That said, we have to give Spears props for trying something fresh (and having the style sense to rock her Technicolor mane with a simple LBD).

Lovato would surely love Spears’s new locks. But with rumors once again swirling that Simon Cowell demanded Spears overhaul her wardrobe, we do have to wonder what the tough critic would say about this new look. Tell us: What do you think of Spears’s bright hair?

There have been many buzz-worthy moments on the X Factor so far, but we’ve been slightly distracted by something else: Demi Lovato‘s gorgeous hair and makeup on the show. The girl looks flawless (suppose it helps that she’s 20 and has fabulous skin), and we really can’t stop staring.

So what’s her secret? Aside from that awesome complexion, it’s her hair and makeup team: Johnny Stuntz and Jill Powell.

“I pick out what I want to wear — makeup, nail polish,” Lovato recently told PEOPLE. But Stuntz and Powell provide that extra oomph.

“She has great personal style, and we just draw on that,” Stuntz tells PEOPLE. “She just really represents what a 20-year-old girl is like right now. She’s just really young and hip.”

Powell agrees. “She’s a chameleon — she can do anything with her hair and makeup,” she adds.

To get Lovato’s complexion really glowing, Powell usually starts with a bit of concealer and a BB cream, “or a really hydrating foundation to keep her skin aglow,” she says. There’s also a lot of experimentation, especially with her lip colors. “She likes to change her look a lot — it’s fantastic,” Powell shares. “She embraces new trends, so oftentimes I’ll show her something and she’ll be like, ‘Oh my god I love it,’ and then we try it.”

One particularly memorable look came early in the season, when Lovato appeared quite natural save for winged black eyeliner, soft pink blush and a matching lip (similar to the photo above). “Her hair was changing so much that we wanted to calm the makeup down a bit,” Powell explains. Brows (fuller) and lashes (more natural) were a focus, as well — but everything had to stay in place under those bright lights.

“There’s a fine line because you want everything to be waterproof and stay for a 15-hour shoot, but you want it to look natural the whole time, too,” Powell explains. “But the day I did the pink look, she cried, and I was watching and was like, ‘Yes, nothing moved!’” Tell us: Are you loving Lovato’s X Factor look?

After telling Kelly Ripa that she wasn’t planning to change her blonde hair, Demi Lovato debuted a new brunette ‘do on Wednesday night’s first X Factor live show. The singer kept her bangs, which she cut this summer, and wore her hair straight and down.

“It’s coming to fall and it’s harder to maintain a healthy skin tone, and when you’re going into winter it just sucks out the color of everyone,” Lovato told reporters after Thursday night’s X Factor. “So I tend to go dark during the holidays; it’s a nice contrast. There’s one thing about being blonde and pale, but I would rather be dark and pale.”

Lovato, a natural brunette, has tried a lot of looks in the past 12 months, from pink hair and blue tips to blonde locks and a bright-red ‘do.

“She’s a chameleon — she can do anything with her hair and makeup,” her makeup artist, Jill Powell, recently told PEOPLE. “She likes to change her look a lot — it’s fantastic. She embraces new trends.”

Turns out the LBD isn’t the only universally flattering dress: Jordin Sparks, Demi Lovato and Sofia Vergara are three beautiful women with three very different body types — yet they all looked good in the same gown.

All of the ladies have stepped out in the same leather bustier dress with an electric blue chiffon skirt, but each star put her own spin on the look.

Sparks was the first to slip into the dress at the Billboard Music Awards in May. She paired the popular number with drop earrings, a few silver bangles and a pretty, low ponytail for an effortlessly chic look.

And though Lovato often adds some edge to her outfits, surprisingly, she kept her look simple and sophisticated by wearing the billowy design with a steel-colored statement necklace, studs and a messy updo at the Irresistible Awards in August.

If you thought Lady Gaga would be recovering from her hip surgery like any other citizen — well, you obviously haven’t been paying enough attention.

After laying low for a few weeks to recover, the perpetually surprising singer rolled out her latest accessory — literally. She wheeled out of her N.Y.C. hotel (see the pic here) in a 24-karat gold-plated wheelchair created for her by jewelry designer Ken Borochov from Mordekai, whom she’d previously tapped to create a gold claw for her fragrance launch.

The chair features a tufted leather seat and a removable canopy, which is why Borochov said in a statement, “I was thrilled to create what I affectionately dubbed the Chariot, a chair fit only for a queen.”

Though Gaga considers herself a trailblazer, she’s not the first star this year to make a style statement out of her injury.

At the 2013 Oscars in February, Kristen Stewart added a pair of crutches to her Reem Acra gown, then completed the avant-garde look by wearing one Bloch flat on her injured foot and a Jimmy Choo heel on the other.

And Demi Lovato refused to let her cast keep her from looking cute last month, bedazzling it with funky studs to really dress the look up for London Fashion Week.

Thanks to Demi Lovato’s performance on Jimmy Kimmel Live last night, we woke up with “Heart Attack” stuck in our heads and a desire to replicate her cool, studded nails.

So we reached out to the team at Sally Hansen for tips on how we could do it ourselves, and their Nail Ambassador (and celebrity manicurist) Tracylee broke the look down for us, along with suggestions on which products to use to DIY.

First, get your products together. Tracylee recommends Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Xtreme Wear in Black Out, Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Greige and studs that you can pick up from an arts and crafts store.

Polish with the black shade and let dry completely. Next, paint the Greige polish on a diagonal from the left side of nail to the right side to create one side of the triangle. Repeat on other side of the nail from right to left for the other side.

Attach the metal stud accent to the tip of the triangle and apply a top coat to the entire nail. Let it dry for five minutes, then apply one more top coat and let dry completely so that nothing budges.

Tracylee created a similar look for the Tracy Reese show last fall, so you know this nail art is not only Lovato-approved but model-worthy as well. Tell us: Will you try this edgy nail look?
